Design at the Edges: 2011 IDA Congress will take place from 24-26 October in Taipei? focusing on five keynote speeches ? Biotechnology, Economic Development, International Migration, Internet, and Urbanism ? in its morning sessions, with afternoons devoted to dozens of presentations on education, design practice, academic research, and multiculturalism, among other themes.? The International Design Alliance (IDA) is a strategic venture between the international organisations representing industrial design, communication design and interior architecture/design. The alliance was created by its founding partners, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) and the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) in 2003. In 2008, the IDA welcomed the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) to the alliance as the third partner.

Power struggle: Glory Vs Kane...
Fires on the streets. Broken glass on roads. Burnt out cars and shops looted like an animal carcass in the wild, a few small scavengers returning to them once the bigger animals had taken their fill and left with bloated emotions.
It was a riot he'd been prepared for. Powered humans misusing their gifts to create chaos. The police were doing all the could, Hydra Corp. had stepped in and sent aid. Kane felt it was all too little too late. A feeling his superiors shared. The army felt that a stronger show of force was needed to end the violence on the streets. The General had enough influence to make it happen, but the tense situation had made it an easy choice for the powers that be: send "it" in.
A stealth jet was used in the cover of the night, hidden just above the clouds. It was auto-piloted, and carried Kane as its cargo. He lay in a coffin-like box, hooked up to liquid cooling systems, Nano-nearal AI Learning interfaces, and state-of-the-art training simulations (he could easily run 15,000 simulated combat missions in VR simultaneously over the course of the trip.)
Once over the city, he was disconnected, and a small audio brief began:
"Kane. Clean up the mess. I don't need to tell you this is a black operation, if you somehow get caught, you're not affiliated with the military, this country or any of its territories. Understand?"
Kane kept his eyes closed, "Yes" he said in a calm manner.
"Then it's time to drop."
The floor opened up from under his back, revealing the howling wind. He was dropped like an A-bomb. He kept his eyes closed as he fell rapidly to the city.
Kane landed into the streets with a loud bang, the ground exploded on impact. As the dust settled, the image of Kane straightening up and looking out to the powered rioters came into focus. He would have told them to run if he had any heart.
Kane walked forward, making a clear patch of destruction. Some tried to hit him with weapons, he simply reversed, snapped a few arms and kept moving. A fireball came his way, he dodged, spun and kicked the thrower's face. Every five steps was another one down. A very clear warpath had been made. He was cleaning up the town, and he didn't care if that meant a complete extinction of every rioter and looter. Bodies littered the paths, the dead and unconscious bleeding and bruised.
The town had started a riot. Kane had brought a war.

Iran to release jailed US hikers, lawyer says
TEHRAN?? The lawyer for two Americans jailed as spies in Iran says a $1 million bail-for-freedom deal has been approved by the courts, clearing the way for the release of the men after more than two years in custody.
The Iranian attorney for the two, Masoud Shafiei, said he planned to go to Tehran's Evin prison to begin the procedure for the release of Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, both 29.
"The case is over," Shafiei said. "The court has ordered that they be freed on bail."
Earlier, Shafiei told Reuters that he had obtained the "necessary signatures from judiciary officials for their release."

At 6:15 a.m. ET, Reuters reported that a Swiss Embassy convoy had been spotted at the prison where the men were being held.
The Swiss diplomatic mission has represented U.S. interests in Iran since Washington cut off diplomatic relations with Tehran shortly after its 1979 Islamic Revolution.
State-run Press TV reported that Iran's judiciary confirmed that Bauer and Fattal had been released.
Bauer and Fattal were arrested along the Iran-Iraq border in July 2009 and sentenced last month to eight years each in prison. A third American in the group, Sarah Shourd, was freed last year on bail.

Ahead of his annual trip to the United Nations, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told NBC's TODAY last week that Bauer and Fattal would be freed "in a couple of days" as a humanitarian gesture.

But the Iranian judiciary, controlled by conservative hardliners at odds with Ahmadinejad, immediately rejected a swift release on bail, saying the matter was under review.
Shafiei said last week the men would be freed on $500,000 bail each. Shourd was allowed to go home on $500,000 bail in September 2010.
Iraqi help?
Last week, Oman dispatched a plane belonging to the Gulf country's ruler to fetch the two Americans if the freedom-for-bail was reached.
Omani officials declined to comment on the ongoing proceedings for the Americans' release. They only said the private plane, sent from Muscat to the Iranian capital last Wednesday, was still in Tehran.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani helped to mediate the pending release of Fattal and Bauer, according to Iraqi officials.
The three Americans ? friends from their days at the University of California at Berkeley ? have maintained their innocence and denied the espionage charges against them.
Their families say the three Americans were just hiking in northern Iraq's scenic and relatively peaceful Kurdish region when they may have accidentally strayed over the unmarked border.
Their trial was held behind closed doors.
The last direct contact family members had with Bauer and Fattal was in May 2010 when their mothers were permitted a short visit in Tehran.
Since her release last year, Shourd has lived in Oakland, California. Bauer, a freelance journalist, grew up in Onamia, Minnesota, and Fattal, an environmental activist, is from suburban Philadelphia.
Bauer proposed marriage to Shourd while in prison.??
